Task Center
The Task Center is your unified to-do inbox. It holds tasks you create by hand plus deadline tasks that CompStack derives from other modules: CAPAs coming due, evidence about to expire, planned certification visits, management reviews coming up, vendor reviews, training assignments, and equipment calibration or maintenance. Use it as the one page that answers "what needs doing, and by when".
Before you start
- The Task Center is a core module. It is always on and cannot be disabled in Settings > Modules. It appears in the side nav as My Tasks and lives at
/tasks. - You need to be a member of an organization. Any member can create tasks and update their status.
- Derived tasks only appear if the source modules have data with dates: CAPAs with due dates, evidence with a valid-until date, certification visits with a planned date, management reviews with a next review date, and so on.
Read the page
- Open My Tasks in the side nav.
- The header shows three buttons: Refresh, Derive from modules, and New Task.
- Below the header are three tabs with live counts:
- My Tasks: active tasks assigned to you, plus unassigned tasks (anyone can pick those up).
- All open: every task with status Open or In progress.
- Done: tasks that were completed (Done) or dismissed (Dismissed).
- Each task row shows the title, description, and a set of tags: the source (Manual, CAPA, Evidence, Certification visit, Management review, Attestation, Incident, Vendor review, Training, Workflow rule), the due date, the severity (Low, Medium, High), and the assignee. An active task whose due date is before today gets a red Overdue tag instead of the gray due-date tag.
Create a task by hand
- Click New Task.
- Fill in the dialog:
- Title (required): what needs to be done, in one line.
- Description: optional detail.
- Assignee: pick a member of your organization, or leave it as Unassigned. Unassigned tasks show in everyone's My Tasks tab.
- Set due date: opens a date picker. Optional.
- Severity: Low, Medium, or High. Defaults to Medium.
- Click Create task. The task appears with the Manual source tag and status Open.
Work a task through its lifecycle
Task statuses are: Open, In progress, Done, Dismissed.
- On an Open task, click Start to move it to In progress.
- On any active task (Open or In progress), click Done to complete it, or Dismiss to close it without doing it.
- Done and dismissed tasks move to the Done tab. There is no reopen button; if the work comes back, create a new task or re-derive from modules.
Derive tasks from module deadlines
- Click Derive from modules in the header.
- CompStack scans the modules and raises an open task for each deadline it finds:
- CAPA: CAPAs still active (not closed, rejected, or cancelled) that are due within 14 days or already overdue. The task is assigned to the CAPA owner.
- Evidence: evidence expiring within 30 days or already expired.
- Certification visit: certification visits planned within the next 30 days.
- Management review: reviews whose next review date is within 14 days.
- Workflow rule: if the Workflow Rules module is enabled, your rules run first and may raise their own tasks.
- Derived tasks get severity High when the deadline is already past, otherwise Medium.
- A toast reports how many new tasks were created, split between module deadlines and workflow rules. If everything is already covered, the toast says no new tasks were needed.
Derivation is safe to run repeatedly. Each source record can only have one live task at a time: while a derived task is Open or In progress, re-deriving does nothing for that record. After you mark it Done or dismiss it, a later derivation can raise a fresh task if the deadline still applies.
Three modules push their own tasks into the Task Center from their own pages instead of the Derive from modules button:
- Vendor reviews: click Refresh on the Vendors (TPRM) page. Active vendors whose next review date is within 30 days (or overdue) get a task.
- Training: click Refresh on the Training page. Open assignments due within 14 days (or overdue) get a task assigned to the trainee.
- Equipment: click Refresh on the Equipment page. Calibration or maintenance due within 30 days (or overdue) gets a task assigned to the equipment owner.
Refresh the list
Click Refresh in the header to reload tasks from the server without deriving anything new. The tab counts update. Use this after another user has changed tasks, or after raising tasks from the Vendors, Training, or Equipment pages.
Try it
- Open My Tasks from the side nav. Expected: three tabs with counts, and a header with Refresh, Derive from modules, and New Task.
- Click New Task, type only a title, and click Create task. Expected: the task appears in All open with a Manual tag, Medium severity, and Unassigned.
- Create a task with a due date of yesterday. Expected: the row shows a red Overdue tag.
- Click Start on an Open task. Expected: status changes to In progress and the Start button disappears.
- Click Done on the task. Expected: it moves to the Done tab with a green Done tag.
- Create a CAPA with a due date within the next 14 days (see CAPA), then click Derive from modules. Expected: a toast reports one new task from modules, and a task titled "CAPA due: ..." appears with a purple CAPA tag.
- Click Derive from modules again immediately. Expected: a toast says no new tasks; the existing derived task is not duplicated.
- Dismiss the derived CAPA task, then derive again. Expected: a fresh task is raised for the same CAPA because the deadline still applies.
If something goes wrong
- My Tasks is missing from the side nav: the Task Center is core and cannot be turned off, so this usually means you are not signed in to an organization yet. Pick or create an organization first.
- "Failed to load tasks" error: click Retry. If it persists, check your network connection and that you are still a member of the organization.
- Derive from modules creates nothing: that is normal when no CAPA, evidence, certification, or management review deadline falls inside the derivation windows (14 or 30 days), or when live tasks already cover them. The toast will say so.
- Expected vendor, training, or equipment tasks are missing: those are raised from their own pages. Open the Vendors, Training, or Equipment page and click Refresh there, then come back to the Task Center.
- A task you expect in My Tasks is not there: the My Tasks tab only shows tasks assigned to you or unassigned. Check the All open tab; the task may be assigned to someone else.
- Cannot edit a task's title after creating it: the Task Center rows only offer status changes (Start, Done, Dismiss). To change the content, dismiss the task and create a new one.
