Feature modules and industry presets
CompStack is built from feature modules. Each module is one area of the app, such as Audits, Risk Register, or Chemicals. Your organization can turn optional modules on or off, so the navigation only shows what your team actually operates. Industry presets give you a one-click starting point: pick the preset that matches your industry and CompStack switches the right module set on for you. Use this page when you set up a new organization or want to tidy up the navigation.
Before you start
- You must be an org admin. Non-admins who open Settings see an "Admin access required" screen.
- An organization must be selected (see Getting started).
- Module settings apply to the whole organization, not just you.
The module catalog
Open Settings in the side nav, then pick the Modules tab. The pane lists all 40 modules in five groups:
Core (always on, shown with a lock icon, cannot be turned off):
- Dashboard, My Tasks, My workspace, Documents, Records, Settings, AI Copilot, Organizations & Sites, Onboarding.
Quality management:
- On by default: Standards Library & Scoping, Gap Analysis, Departments, Processes, Templates, Approval chains, Audits, Findings, CAPA, Management Review, Objectives & KPIs, Reports, Complaints.
- Off by default: Change (MoC).
Governance, risk & compliance:
- On by default: Risk Register, Context (COTO), Controls, Evidence, Attestations.
- Off by default: SoA (ISO 27001), Certification, Vendors (TPRM), Workflow Rules, Regulatory Changes, Continuity (BCM).
Health, safety & environment:
- On by default: Incidents, Training.
- Off by default: Equipment, Chemicals (SDS), Permits (PTW).
Platform:
- On by default: Module Store & Publisher.
A new organization starts with the defaults above: every core and default-on module active, and the ten default-off modules hidden.
Turn a module on or off
- Go to Settings, then the Modules tab.
- Find the module in its group. Each row shows the module name, a one-line description, and a toggle. Core modules show a lock icon instead of a toggle.
- Click the toggle. The change saves immediately for the whole organization.
- Check the side nav. A disabled module disappears from navigation for all members. A re-enabled module reappears.
What happens to your data: nothing is deleted. Disabling a module only hides it. All records stay in the database and come back when you re-enable the module.
What happens to links: if anyone opens a URL that belongs to a disabled module (for example /audits while Audits is off), the app redirects them to the Dashboard. Core module routes are never blocked.
Apply an industry preset
The Apply an industry preset panel sits at the top of the Modules pane. A preset sets every optional module at once: modules in the preset go on, every other optional module goes off. Core modules always stay on.
- Go to Settings, then Modules.
- In the preset panel, click one of the seven preset cards to select it. The selected card shows a check mark.
- Click Apply preset.
- A confirmation dialog asks "Apply the [preset name] preset?" and warns that your current settings will be replaced. Click Apply preset to confirm, or Cancel.
- Wait for the batch to finish. A message confirms how many modules changed, for example "Applied Manufacturing preset (12 modules changed)."
- Fine-tune with the individual toggles below if the preset is close but not exact.
The seven presets and the optional modules each one enables:
- Manufacturing: full quality, HSE, and governance stack. Enables Processes, Departments, Audits, Findings, CAPA, Complaints, Change (MoC), Management Review, Objectives & KPIs, Reports, Standards Library & Scoping, Gap Analysis, Risk Register, Context (COTO), Controls, Evidence, Certification, Continuity (BCM), Incidents, Equipment, Chemicals (SDS), Permits (PTW), Training.
- SaaS & Technology: for ISO 27001 and SOC 2 teams. Enables Standards Library & Scoping, Gap Analysis, SoA (ISO 27001), Controls, Evidence, Risk Register, Context (COTO), Vendors (TPRM), Attestations, Certification, Audits, Findings, CAPA, Management Review, Objectives & KPIs, Reports, Training, Incidents, Change (MoC), Continuity (BCM), Regulatory Changes, Workflow Rules.
- Food & Beverage: quality and food-safety essentials. Enables Processes, Departments, Audits, Findings, CAPA, Complaints, Change (MoC), Management Review, Objectives & KPIs, Reports, Risk Register, Context (COTO), Controls, Evidence, Standards Library & Scoping, Gap Analysis, Certification, Incidents, Equipment, Chemicals (SDS), Training.
- Construction: site safety and permit-to-work. Enables everything in Food & Beverage plus Permits (PTW) and Continuity (BCM).
- Healthcare: patient safety, governance, and accreditation. Enables Standards Library & Scoping, Gap Analysis, Audits, Findings, CAPA, Complaints, Change (MoC), Management Review, Objectives & KPIs, Reports, Risk Register, Context (COTO), Controls, Evidence, Incidents, Training, Certification, Continuity (BCM), Regulatory Changes, Attestations, Vendors (TPRM).
- Professional Services: lean ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 setup. Enables Standards Library & Scoping, Gap Analysis, SoA (ISO 27001), Controls, Evidence, Risk Register, Context (COTO), Audits, Findings, CAPA, Management Review, Objectives & KPIs, Reports, Training, Incidents, Change (MoC), Vendors (TPRM), Attestations, Certification.
- Start minimal: turns every optional module off. Switch on only what you need afterwards.
Note: a preset can also turn off modules that are on by default. For example, the Manufacturing preset does not include Templates or Approval chains, so applying it turns those off. Re-enable them with their toggles if you use them.
Try it
- Open Settings > Modules as an org admin. Expected: five groups (Core, Quality management, Governance risk & compliance, Health safety & environment, Platform) with 40 modules.
- Hover the lock icon on Dashboard. Expected: tooltip says it is a core module that is always on.
- Toggle Equipment on. Expected: an Equipment entry appears in the side nav.
- Toggle Equipment off again. Expected: the nav entry disappears for all members.
- With Equipment off, open
/equipmentdirectly in the browser. Expected: you are redirected to the Dashboard. - Select the Start minimal preset card and click Apply preset, then confirm. Expected: a message reports how many modules changed, and the nav shrinks to core items plus Module Store.
- Apply the SaaS & Technology preset. Expected: SoA (ISO 27001), Vendors (TPRM), and Workflow Rules turn on; Processes and Departments turn off.
- Re-apply the same preset immediately. Expected: the message reports 0 modules changed, because nothing differed.
- Sign in as a non-admin and open Settings. Expected: an "Admin access required" screen with a "Back to dashboard" button.
If something goes wrong
- "Could not update the module. Try again.": the save to the server failed. Check your connection and click the toggle again.
- The Apply preset button is disabled: you have not selected a preset card yet, or a preset apply is still running (the button shows "Applying...").
- A preset finished "with some errors": some module writes failed. The message shows how many modules did change. Re-apply the preset or fix the remaining toggles by hand.
- A module I enabled is still hidden: only org admins can change modules, and the change is org-wide. If another admin applied a preset after you, your toggle may have been overwritten. Check the Modules pane for the current state.
- A default-off module bounced me to the Dashboard after a hard reload: the app waits until the org's module settings load before enforcing the guard, so this should not happen. If it does, reload once more or re-check the module toggle in Settings > Modules.
